Prabhas’s latest film, “Salaar” which he unveiled today, aims to showcase his versatility on a Pan India scale. This movie has generated immense excitement even before its premiere. It’s commonplace for 3 million tickets to be reserved within a single day globally.
Dunki, helmed by Rajkumar Hirani and starring Shahrukh Khan in the lead, hit theatres yesterday. However, it has been widely criticized for its weak content, receiving mixed reviews. On the contrary, Salaar, which premiered today, has already garnered positive audience feedback from its initial screenings.
Salaar’s success is seen as surpassing Shahrukh Khan’s film, Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which is considered inferior compared to his previous works. Hirani, known for directing acclaimed movies like PK, Munnabhai MBBS, and 3 Idiots, has failed to meet audience expectations this time. Dunki’s storyline and audience reviews suggest it falls far short of the quality associated with his earlier films.
There was a prevailing sentiment that Shahrukh Khan, known for consecutive successes like Pathan and Jawan, would outperform Prabhas’ Salaar with his latest film, Dunki. This belief was shared by the audience, considering Dunki’s director, Rajkumar Hirani, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry. However, those expectations have now significantly dwindled. Prabhas, receiving acclaim for ‘Salaar,’ is exhibiting remarkable performance at the box office. Comparatively, Salaar’s earnings surpass Dunki by a significant margin.
The global first-day box office earnings for Dunki have reached Rs 95 crore. In terms of net collection, it has garnered up to Rs 30 crore. Comparatively, when considering the first-day box office figures, it falls notably short of Prabhas’s Adipurush, which grossed Rs 140 crore on its opening day.
Will Dunki manage to hold its ground against Salaar?
Even in Northern India, Salaar tickets are selling rapidly. Salaar has garnered immense popularity with outstanding reviews. There’s speculation that Shahrukh Khan might enjoy a brief respite before Prabhas dominates the theaters. Initially, it seemed like a clash between the two films was imminent. However, after the first day’s response, the scenario changed drastically. Dunki has received positive feedback in the North but its ticket sales performance in South India has been notably poor.
Regarding Salaar, apart from the South, there’s a tremendous buzz in the North as well. Salaar is also receiving exceptional reviews. Dunki doesn’t appear to stand a chance against Salaar in terms of its opening performance.
